SPREADING THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT WARNER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

.....There is much that could be told of Warner Christian Academy's rich heritage.  Since 1971, Warner's influence has impacted the Halifax area by providing quality education from a Christian worldview.  So many community families have been a part of Warner that we could not begin to share the many blessings we have seen.  However, we have developed this brochure for the purpose of communicating just a few items of interest.  If you have further questions about who we are, come visit us.  We would love to talk with you.

Weekly Updates

Did You Know…?

Warner Christian Academy opened the doors of the first grade in September of 1971 and soon after added a Day Care Center. In September of  1972 WCA opened the school year with 228 students in grades K5 through 9.  By the 1973 fall term, Warner had 440 students and the athletic  program was started. In 1974, the first graduating class became the first official alumni of WCA.

Warner is an outreach ministry of White Chapel Church of God to the Halifax community. We provide services for children from infancy through 12th grade. Warner provides a safe environment where students are taught by Christian teachers who care about their students and the school. Tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs and weapons are not acceptable on the WCA campus.

Warner graduates may be found working for major corporations and serving as doctors, nurses, veterinarians, lawyers, teachers, entertainers, college professors, ministers, and missionaries.  Other alumni are employed in pharmaceutical sales, armed services, corporate management, law enforcement, and space technology. Warner volunteers provide service in the libraries, classrooms, and offices. The Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is an active group that has provided great assistance with school needs.

 ACADEMICS
Warner Christian Academy is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).  ACSI is a charter member of the National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA), and the accreditation program of ACSI has been fully recognized by them.  NCPSA is a national review panel for the standards and procedures of private school accrediting associations and is recognized in Florida as an indicator of a quality accreditation process

Our graduates often go on for further study at many of the nation’s top colleges, such as Cornell, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Southern Methodist University, George Washington, Indiana, Purdue and Baylor.  Other colleges attended by WCA graduates include Stetson University, Emory University, Milligan College, Westmont College, Treveca Nazarene, Harding University, Palm Beach Atlantic, Mid-America Christian University, Anderson University, Dallas Baptist University, Liberty University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Bethune-Cookman College, Florida State University, University of Florida, University of Central Florida, University of Southern Florida and Jacksonville University

Warner students consistently score above the state and national norms on standardized tests (ACT, SAT, etc.).

Several students have been National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists.
Florida Academic Scholars Certificates and Scholarships have been earned by seniors who qualified.
Warner seniors regularly receive college scholarships from a variety of sources:  the college itself, local contests sponsored by civic organizations, as well as state and national programs

Warner students have placed second and third in their division of the Junior Engineering and Technical Society competition in the State of Florida.  This competition covers engineering aptitude, mathematics and science knowledge.

Warner annually competes successfully in the Volusia County Spelling Bee with other area schools and has hosted the ACSI District Spelling Bee since 1985.  Our students consistently win and/or place in the final four.
Over 90% of our graduates go on to some form of higher education.
Students in grades 7-12 can qualify for an Academic Letter if they have a grade point average of 3.000 or better.  An active National Honor Society Chapter is available for those who qualify in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character and service.  Warner has sponsored a National Honor Society/National  Junior Honor Society since 1979.

Warner Christian Academy students have the opportunity to participate in science fairs, academic fairs and other programs throughout the school year. Teachers are able to provide personal attention through small class sizes.  After school help sessions are also available. In addition to basic educational offerings, the program includes computer, foreign languages, field trips, band and vocal music, as well as an extensive sports program.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Three of the Warner Christian Academy yearbook covers have been selected for use in a national video presentation by a major yearbook company.  Warner yearbooks have been selected by ACSI as a Best Cover award winner and a Best Theme award winner. The varsity boys’ basketball team won the Class A State Championship in 1980.  Baseball twice made it to the state Final Four.  Other WCA athletic teams have been and are very competitive. Football has been a part of Warner’s athletic program since 1996. The "Velvet Blues," Warner's marching band, competes with other schools in the Florida Bandmasters' Association and regularly receives ratings of "superior."

The Warner Christian Academy Elementary and Junior High School Choirs are consistently recognized for outstanding performances at local events and at ACSI festival competitions.  Both the Elementary Choir and Junior High Ensemble receive “superior” ratings on a regular basis. Seaside Music Theater has recognized Warner’s drama department in its Blazing Stars Awards program. A student government association called Council of Eagles plans school spirit weeks and homecoming festivities.  Junior-Senior activities are sponsored each year by the junior class.

All students are given the opportunity to learn the value of service to others through various projects.  For eight years WCA junior high students sponsored adults from the Hugh West Center in DeLand at Christmas.  Other projects have included mission work camps to Nevis, St. Jude’s Math-A-Thon, “To Russia With Love” school supply project, Hindi Bibles for Indian children, and care packages to Ethiopians.  Each month our fifth graders minister to the mentally handicapped at the Duvall Home. The Christmas program, first grade circus, and elementary spring program are always high points of the year.

SPIRITUAL LIFE
The faculty and staff have daily devotions during which time prayers are offered for students and their families.
An overwhelming number of former students often return to report that the environment provided at Warner helped them prepare for the adult world. Students have the opportunity to plan and participate in daily Bible classes and weekly chapel programs, as well as see and hear from Christians in other walks of life. All subjects are taught from a Christian world and life view. Students who attend Warner grow up realizing that parents, grandparents, guardians and others care enough about them to enroll them in a Christian school. We have many other items that could be mentioned, but space will not permit.  You are invited to visit Warner Christian Academy to see us in action.
